WP Engine, Kinsta and Pantheon alternatives · Australia
They host it. Who looks after the website?
WP Engine, Kinsta and Pantheon are good hosts, and each says in its own support policy that your site’s code is out of scope. BLACKBX is an Australian managed hosting provider with developers built in: we run the server and look after the website on it.
One team for the server and the site.

A host, or a service department?

- You want to pick a plan off the shelf today
BLACKBX is the right call if
- Nobody looks after the website once it’s built
- You’re tired of passing messages between your host and your developer
- Your site runs on Magento or Silverstripe, which none of the three offer managed hosting for
- You want every change written down, in a logbook you own
Happy with your host?
- Keep them
- Maintenance, from $840/month + GST, puts our developers on your site
- Your host keeps the server
Questions
Before you switch.
Is BLACKBX an alternative to WP Engine in Australia?
Yes, if you want the website looked after as well as hosted. WP Engine hosts WordPress sites only and its support policy says it cannot assist with custom code. BLACKBX is an Australian managed hosting provider whose developers also update, patch, fix and change the website itself, for anything that runs on a Linux server, from WordPress, Drupal, Magento and Silverstripe sites to custom applications.
Is BLACKBX an alternative to Kinsta in Australia?
Yes, if you want developers included. Kinsta hosts WordPress in Sydney and Melbourne, and its support policy puts code editing out of scope and leaves fixing a broken plugin to that plugin’s developer. With BLACKBX, our developers fix it, and every change goes in a logbook you own.
Is BLACKBX an alternative to Pantheon?
Yes, if you want developers who work on your site’s code. Pantheon hosts Drupal and WordPress sites, including in an Australia region, and its support policy says its team does not change customer code. BLACKBX hosts the site and our developers update, patch, fix and change the code itself, for anything that runs on a Linux server, from Drupal, WordPress, Magento and Silverstripe sites to custom applications.
Can I keep WP Engine, Kinsta or Pantheon and still use BLACKBX?
Yes. BLACKBX Maintenance, from $840 a month + GST, puts our developers on your site while your current host keeps the server. Every plan is monthly with no minimum term.
Is BLACKBX cheaper than WP Engine, Kinsta or Pantheon?
Usually not, and it isn’t meant to be. BLACKBX Full service is a fixed monthly price for the hosting and the developers who look after the site, quoted after a 20-minute call. If it runs in your own Google Cloud or AWS account, you also pay Google or Amazon for that account directly. If all you need is a server, a hosting company will be cheaper.
Which websites does BLACKBX host?
Anything that runs on a Linux server: WordPress, Drupal, Magento and Silverstripe sites, custom applications and headless sites built with Next.js, Node.js or Laravel, and their databases, on Google Cloud, AWS or Australian VPS servers from Synergy Wholesale. How our managed hosting works.
